About M'kepi


M'kepi is located in the northern part of South Africa, surrounded by beauty and rich with African wildlife. M'kepi is a unique 1000 hectare game conservancy nestled in the Kransberg valley, just 14kms from Thabazimbi.


The beautiful rolling hills surrounding M'kepi form part of the world renowned Waterberg Mountains, meaning that M'kepi Reserve is also Malaria free. The Waterberg is the first area in the northern part of South Africa to be proclaimed as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The far-reaching rock formation was formed by water erosion that that took millions of years to shape this truly magnificent landform. The Waterberg Mountains is a true South African attraction that has without a doubt an astounding magnetism.


M'kepi Wildlife Conservancy is that rare gem typified by spectacular scenery, magnificent vistas, and continual surprises. Contrasting vegetation and a huge variety of large indigenous trees jostle for attention. This piece of bushveld paradise is about 230km by road from Johannesburg or 30mins by air.


This striking reserve is easily reached by air as it has an 1100m gravel airstrip and offers helicopter or light aircraft charter facilities. This is only one of the many factors that make M'kepi stand out from the rest. To see the African landscape from the sky is a sight that will take your breath away.


Today M'kepi is home to more than 20 species of antelope and plains animals including white rhino, buffalo, leopard and cheetah. This picturesque vastness portrays the essence of the remarkable wildlife in the South African bushveld.


There are numerous activities at M'kepi which brings you even closer to nature.  Guests are able to enjoy game viewing and photographic safaris whilst on vehicles, walking trails or mountain bikes. The fresh air, calmness and tranquillity that are experienced in the bushveld assure a complete relaxed state of mind.


M'kepi  is the representation of South Africa, a model bush lodge that captures the essence of tranquillity and serenity that assures a true African experience.

There are several camps in M'kepi. Maroela Camp is a self catering camp which is fully serviced. It has an amazing outdoor boma which is surrounded by tall Maroela trees. This creates a unique African experience.

Camelthorn Cottage is located underneath a prehistoric Camelthorn tree. This cottage is secluded, and is ideal for a twitters getaway in the African bush. Game can be viewed from the comfort of the veranda at the nearby waterhole.

Tambotie Lodge is luxury at its best when it comes to African lodges. A thatched wonder that is fully equipped and fully serviced. It has an African style veranda that blends with surrounding trees and bushes. You truly become one with nature as you observe the South African wildlife from your doorstep. 


Conservancy

M'kepi is owned by Gerald Chapman, whose passion for this northern bush and whose energy and insight into the potential of the land, gave rise to the development of the M'kepi Conservancy.

Gerald is a dedicated and caring conservationist, with an extensive knowledge of the wild. M'kepi is a testimony to his hard work and dedication in restoring this bushveld paradise to its former glory.
